Special Issue of ISIJ International on “New Developments in Elucidation of Hydrogen Embrittlement Phenomena from the Incubation Stage to Fracture” (Submission deadline: 30th June 2023)
Achieving a low-carbon or decarbonized society is one of the most important of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations. Toward the achievement of this goal, the clarification of hydrogen embrittlement phenomena is an urgent issue concerning the use of high-strength steel for lightweight vehicles and other applications in the process of building a society based on hydrogen energy.
Research projects have been organized to investigate this matter and substantial progress has been obtained so far. In recent years, hydrogen embrittlement phenomena from the incubation stage to fracture have been clarified on the basis of multiscale analyses through a combination of advanced material characterization techniques and computational science. Although this special issue mainly focuses on cutting-edge research for clarifying hydrogen embrittlement phenomena, it will also include fundamental and applied research topics.
1. Scope
This special issue comprehensively collects cutting-edge research studies on the clarification of hydrogen embrittlement phenomena. This encompasses fundamental research on hydrogen diffusion, hydrogen trapping, interactions between lattice defects and hydrogen, and hydrogen embrittlement mechanisms. It also includes applied research concerning methods of evaluating hydrogen embrittlement and the development of materials with greater resistance to hydrogen embrittlement.
